Sitting in my office today and working on my Sunday morning sermon and my Christmas Eve sermon. I began to think about the number of people who do not know the true meaning of Christmas and those asking the questions "So what is the big deal about Christmas", Why does Santa Claus bring gifts to only good boys and girls?
Let me start out by saying that Santa Claus is not the true meaning of Christmas. As a child I believed in Santa, but as I grew to be an adult, it is then that I realized what the true meaning of Christmas is all about. I have gone to church almost my full entire 63 years of my life, I heard stories in Sunday School about this man called Jesus. We studied in Sunday School leading up to Christmas day about this baby born in Bethlehem, in a stable, wrapped in rags and placed in a feeding trough as a bed.
I never fully realized umtil I got older and started the reading the Bible and the Christmas story found in Luke chapter 2, verses 1-19. I see where a very young Mary trusted God in becoming the mother of Jesus, I see Joseph willing to take on the role of a step father to help Mary raise Jesus. I began to realize we are all born as sinners and our only hope is through Jesus Christ fully man but more importyant fully God who loved us so much, that he was born in stable to live a life pleaseing to God the Father.
Christmas and Easter go together, we can celebrate one without the other. He was born on Christmas and He rose from the grave on Easter. He is our loving savior.
John 3:16-17 For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
Christmas and Easter are not a once a year celebration, it is a daily celebration for what Jesus Christ did for us.
